JBL Endurance Run – Quality headphones for under $20?

JBL Endurance Run – Quality headphones for under $20?

In this video I take a first look at the JBL Endurance Run headphones.

I’ve been using JBL earbuds for over a year now (the Inspire 300s) and these are an even more affordable pair of headphones, including an in-line microphone and remote.

In-ear headphones are a handy additional to any home studio or mobile recording rig, as they provide a flexible option for listening to your audio, as well as the convenience of a mic that handles voice recording well, due to the noise cancellation these mics have.

Stay tuned for my follow up video where I will let you know how they have gone after a week of regular use.

How to add, remove and change effects/plug-ins in GarageBand iOS

Plug-ins and EQ were added in to GarageBand some time ago now, and have significantly improved the way we can create and mix music here in GarageBand iPad and GarageBand iPhone.

Each instrument and audio preset has a default set of plug-ins added, but it is super easy to add, remove and change these effects to a whole range of other effects, including third party effects using Audio Units.

In this quick tip video, I show you how to quickly add, remove and change your plug-ins and effects in GarageBand iOS.

How to use triplet quantization in GarageBand iOS (iPad/iPhone)

How to use triplet quantization in GarageBand iOS

The ability to quantize or correct timing of your notes in GarageBand iPad and GarageBand iPhone is one of the best options for making your music sound more polished and professional.

Quantization is a feature which automatically lines your notes up on the grid using different timing such as quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes (1/4, 1/8, 1/16).

Standard quantization involved these notes being lined up using a very steady rhythm and is known as “straight quantization”

There is also a “swing” variation where your notes are quantized using a swing rhythm, which is good for some types of music.

The final (and least understood) quantization is triplet quantization, which lines your notes up using triplet based rhythms.

Can you force creativity in music?

Can you force creativity in music?

You know the feeling. You know that you SHOULD finish that song, but energy levels are low, motivation is non-existent, and all you really want to do is sit on the couch and play video games or binge on that TV show that you’re really in to right now.

So the question is… should you force creativity? Or is it better to step back and recharge?

Let me know what you think and how you manage this situation.

How to save custom preset sounds in GarageBand iOS

How to save custom preset sounds in GarageBand iOS (GarageBand iPhone and GarageBand iPad)

GarageBand on the iPad and the iPhone may have thousands of sounds already, but sometimes you want to customize a sound even more by tweaking the settings and adjusting parameters.

Well, there is a way to take those tweaks and save the settings so that you can use your own customised sound presets in other projects.

Keyboards, guitars, amp sims, audio recorder tracks and many more types of sounds have the ability to change settings, adjust effects and really make the sounds exactly what you want, and in this video I show you how to do these adjustments and then save your custom sounds to use in the future.

You can also share your custom settings across devices by sharing your project using iCloud Drive.

How to create a vocal double in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad)

How to create vocal doubles in GarageBand iOS.

If your vocals are sounding thing and not punching through your mix, then vocal doubling is a technique you should consider.

Doubling is the process of recording a “double” of a lead vocal, singing as close to the original version as possible, and then blending then second track in to the mix with your lead vocal. This effect “thickens” the sounds and can help create additional texture to make your vocal mix pop.

Doubling is also known as “double tracking”, and some producers will even use a triple or more vocals to really fatten up the vocal mix.

Do you have any tips or tricks for getting a good vocal double sound in your mixes? Let me know!
