Limiter for iPhone – FAC Maxima First Look (GarageBand iOS)

Limiter for iPhone – FAC Maxima First Look (GarageBand iOS).

The number one plug-in that is missing for GarageaBand iPhone and GarageBand iPad is a decent limiter. Compression and EQ can really help, but a limiter can take it to the next level and give your tracks that boost in gain and presence, without losing the quality you have worked hard to achieve.

FAC Maxima is an Audio Unit plug-in by Fred Anton Corvest that aims to fill this gap and provide a limiter solution for iOS. And the great thing is that unlike mastering apps like Final Touch, the plug-in can be used via Audio Units (AU) on iPad and iPhone, making it super versatile.

In this video, I take a “first look” at the plugin but using it on individual tracks (drums, vocals, guitars) in my recent song, and in a future video, I will be using it as a mastering plug-in on a master track to put it through its paces.

The Alchemy Synth is great for more than just amazing synth sounds, it can actually be used to create some pretty solid recreations of some more traditional instrument sounds as well.

8. Set “polarity” to Max
9. Set “click” to about 1/4

No Headphone Jack? Tips for using an iPhone/iPhone

No Headphone Jack? Tips for using an iPhone/iPhone.

Apple are set to announce their new iPad Pro in October 2018, and rumour has it that this will be their first iPad to ship with no headphone jack.

Apple remove the headphone jack from the iPhone back in 2016 to much criticism from users and the industry, however two years later, it seems most users have made their peace with the move, and have adapted to a world with, er, adapters!

Whether you are for or against the decision, it seems inevitable that the 3.5mm headphone jack may be on its way out for many devices, including the range of iPads.

In this video, I give you some practical tips for using your device without a 3.5mm headphone connection.

Note – I don’t mention Bluetooth or wireless solutions in this video. They are a viable alternative, but personally I have found the latency or “lag” associated with them too much of an issue, especially for recording.

My key tips are:
• Use a pair of lightning headphones
• Use a lightning to 3.5mm adapter
• Use a USB Sound Card/Hub solution
• Use an iRig or similar interface that uses a lightning connection
• Use a Lightning to USB camera adapter to convert to a USB port
• Use a USB audio interface like the Steinberg UR12
