In this video, I show some very simple but effective moves to take our final mix to a final master in GarageBand iOS.

New Version of GarageBand iOS (2.3.3) – Toy Box Sound Effects Pack & Guitar Wah

After nearly 3 months, we finally have another new update in GarageBand iOS for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch owners, including the awesome new “Toy Box” sound effects pack, keyboard instruments, new drum sets, new live loops AND an brand new guitar wah pedal.

Final Mix in GarageBand iOS – Mixing (iPhone/iPad) – Complete-a-Song – Episode 14

We are on the homeward stretch! In this video I will do my final mix, based on mix notes from my listening today.

Here’s a look at all the notes I go through:
– Vocals (Lead) – “It’s for the birds” – chorus double is too loud – drop volume
– Lead Guitar – muted notes in verses too loud – automate volume down
– Percussion – too loud in first chorus
– Vocals (Backing) – the “oooh” on the left side pokes out in the second chorus – automate down
– Vocals (Lead) – Push alternate lines to the left and right by about 20% to create a stereo panning effect
– Vocals (Backing – For the Birds) – final “birds” – reduce intensity of the delay and repeats
– Piano – add some reverb to glue in the track
– Vocals (Lead) – still a little too “crispy” – need to tame the treble slightly with EQ, or reduce drive/compression
– Vocals (Lead) – add some reverb (master) to add some texture
– Vocals (Lead) – “Denying every single fact…” line is quieter than other – automate/clip gain up
– Vocals (Lead) – Bridge 1/4 note delay is a little too intense – darken the colour, potentially add some reverb

Synths & Keys in GarageBand iOS – Adding some Pads (iPhone/iPad) – Complete-a-Song – Episode 11

In this video I take you through some of the additional instruments I’ve added to fill out the arrangement of my “Complete-a-song” challenge track, including organ, electric piano and synth sounds.

I also take a look at some of the mixing decisions I’ve made already and ask for your help in what I should do next.

In this video I record the acoustic guitars for my song “For the Birds” in GarageBand on my iPad, using both a large diaphragm condenser microphone and a direct line in to the audio interface (Steinberg UR12)

Drummer is perhaps the most amazing instrument in GarageBand iOS, but does take some tweaking to get a complete drum track.

In this video, I create an entire drum track for my new song “For The Birds” in under 30 minutes.
