Want to release your music to Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play and more? And want to do it for free, using just your iPhone or iPad, and keep 100% of the royalties?

Well, this is what the Amuse distribution platform is promoting, so of course I had to test it out by releasing my new song “Goats” under my new punk band name “Fear Cut”.

In this video, I show the end to end process as I submit my song for release, including uploading the song file, album are and meta data.

Tom Hanks and the power of perseverance

Tom Hanks and the power of perseverance

Do you like Tom Hanks? Even if you don’t, you have to respect the long career and dozens of movies he has made over the years.

But you know what? Not every Tom Hanks movie is a hit. In fact, some of just downright awful. Have you SEEN Joe vs the Volcano?

So what does this have to do with music creation? Well, what Tom Hanks HAS done is persevered. When he made movies that were not good, he went back and made more. When his movies flopped and the box office, he learnt from it and made sure he picked a better movie next time.

How does this help you with your music creation?

It’s like this. Sometimes you will make music that SUCKS. I’ve made terrible music and some of your favourite artists have made terrible music. In fact, you simple MUST make terrible music if you want to make great music.

Why? Because terrible music helps us learn what does NOT work, which is just as important as what DOES work. If you don’t make bad music, you are probably not experimenting. You are probably not trying new things. And you are probably not prepared to fail.

And failure is super important when you are working towards your best music.

So keep making music. Keep experimenting. And eventually your “The Burbs” will eventually become your own “Saving Private Ryan”.

How to use the MAXIMIZER (brick wall limiter) in Final Touch iPad

How to use the Maximier (brick wall limiter) in Final Touch iPad

The final stage of the mastering process in Final Touch on iPad is to add our brick wall limiter, known in Final Touch as the maximizer.

The maximizer helps increase the volume or “loudness” of your master to ensure that it is competitive with other mastered songs when played back. This is achieved by “limiting” the track, which means the overall volume is brought up which in turn “squashes” the peaks of the track.

The risk will over-limiting is that you can remove all the “dynamic range” of the song, making it too “squashed” in an attempt to make it as loud as possible. The key to mastering is to get your final mix sounding loud enough, without completely removing all the dynamic of the song by making every part at a very loud level.

How to use the Stereo Imager when mastering in Final Touch on iPad

How to use the Stereo Imager when mastering in Final Touch on iPad

Looking to make your tracks sound wider and spread your sound across the stereo spectrum in Final Touch on the iPad? This is the video for you!

The “Stereo Imager” module in Final Touch allows you to adjust how wide (or narrow) the stereo spread is on your master, which can help you improve how your final master.

The module allows you to adjust the left and right pan in the stereo field, and make adjustments to the stereo spectrum, even adjusting the phase of your two channels.

How to use Dynamics (multi-band compressor) in Final Touch on iPad

How to use Dynamics (multi-band compressor) to master in Final Touch on iPad

The Dynamics module in Final Touch on iPad allows you to use a multi-band compressor to help shape your sound and get a more even balance in your mastered tracks in Final Touch.

A multi-band compressor can allow you to add compression to different frequencies in your mix, so that you get absolute finite control over how your mix is being compressed.

Dynamics allows you to dial in the attack, release, ratio and gain across four different frequency bands and have complete control over the processing of each band. You can even solo different bands to help really hear what is happening in each frequency band.

Like all our modules in Final Touch, we can also use either stereo of mid/side processing to control the different channels of our mix and create the perfect master track.
