== Behind the song ==
This song started with the hook, which was lifted without any shame from the classic 90s movie “A League of Their Own”, which was of course “there’s no crying in baseball”.
In fact, I edited a video at the time pulling together clips from the movie. I can’t show it on this channel for many reasons, but those who know how to Google will find it.
The song itself is based on some of my experiences in high school, where bullying was sadly just a fact of life. Bullies still exist and I’m sure kids continue to be bullied to this day. I hope the narrative of this song is somewhat uplifting, despite it’s dark tone. It tells the story of a teenager who was subjected to bullying in high school and then grows up to pity those who were the “bullies”, as they never quite grew up and grew out of this stage.
The line “it’s hard to lose when you don’t even choose to fight” is one that resonates most with me. Bullies need a victim, and when they run out of people who care enough to fight with them, they end up leading shallow and meaningless lives.

== Behind the song ==
The song was built around the finger style guitar arpeggio, and then the piano was added, which is actually based around one of the “auto-play” sounds in GarageBand, but with some tweaking.
All vocals were recorded using the MXL 550 microphone and the track was recorded in GarageBand iOS.
The lyrics tell the story of helping others through addiction, and the challenges faced by those who spend their time helping others, even when there are relapses and failures. For every person struggling, there is usually a support network of people who also need support themselves.

There are two words I would really like to see removed from our music vocabulary, and those are “right” and “wrong”.
The best part of music creation is the ability to try new and different things, and that there is not just one way to get a great sound.
Getting ideas and learning from others is great, but if their process doesn’t work for you and there is a better way that works for your workflow, then that’s what you should be doing.
