Pianos in the park 🎹?!

Pianos in parks is a super cool idea, and I found one recently in my local park here in the Eastern suburbs of Adelaide.

You know I had to have a play and see what sort of sound I could get of course!

How to use Merge Recordings in GarageBand iOS

How to use Merge Recordings in GarageBand iOS

Merge Recordings in GarageBand iPad and GarageBand iPhone helps you record more complex MIDI and virtual instrument tracks, by combining a new recording with an existing recording, and “merging” the two together in a single MIDI track.

Using the “Merge Recordings” function can help you build up more intricate and difficult to play parts, while at the same time making sure that you can reduce the number of tracks that you are using in your project.

Covered in this video:
1. Locating the “Merge Recordings” option
2. How to use with drums
3. How to use with keyboards
4. Alternative options for recording complex parts (using multiple tracks)

Why are my GarageBand iOS songs so loud? (Auto normalization)

Why are my GarageBand iOS songs so loud? (Auto normalization)

Have you noticed that when you export or share a GarageBand iPad or GarageBand iPhone song as a WAV or M4A file, it suddenly becomes louder than when you mixed it in GarageBand iOS?

The reason for this is GarageBand’s “auto normalize” feature, which automatically turns the volume of your song up so that the peaks are at around 0dB. This is to help your song sound generally louder and be able to compete with the volume of other songs, however it is not ideal when mastering a song.

As this automatic normalization feature cannot be turned off in GarageBand iOS (the Mac version can), we need a way to work around this limitation and reduce the volume, which is what I will be covering in this video.

Name my new punk band!

Band names are hard. So I’ve decided to make you do all the work by choosing the name of my new punk band.

Yes, in this video, I use the WordLab “Random Band Name Generator” to randomly generate five band names, and I want you to jump to the comments and add a “like” to the name you would like me to go with.

It gets better though! If you think you have a name that is BETTER than the random suggestions, then add this name as a comment and if your name gets the most likes, that is the name I will use to release this song.

Mixing a punk rock song in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad)

Mixing a punk rock song in GarageBand iOS (iPhone/iPad)

Mixing in GarageBand iOS can be confusing, so in this video, I show that a simple approach is often the best, especially when you are working with live recorded instruments.

Mixing is the process of taking your recorded tracks and balancing the volumes to create a consistent mix, and using a combination of EQ, plug-ins and other effects to further enhance and complete your sound.
